ABOUT “OUR PROTEST SONG”
“Our Protest Song” isn’t about one political party, one movement or even one particular cause. It’s about the protest song itself — and the long tradition of people using music to stand up, speak out and make their voices heard. Whether the fight is for justice, peace, freedom or something deeply personal, there comes a time when staying silent simply isn’t an option. So grab a guitar, beat a drum, raise a fist and sing it loud. Whatever your cause may be, this one can be your protest song.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
What will you do when they come after you?
Will you lay down, surrender your soul?
Will you clench your fist, stand and resist?
Gather soldiers to answer the call
[Pre-Chorus]
Rise up!
Let our silence be heard
Rise up!
Go on and flip'm the bird (Hey!)
[Chorus]
We fight for what's right and we sing from our hearts
Together we all stand strong
We'll scream every verse for better or worse
This is our protest song
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 2]
We rant and we chant and we cry for the cause
If we stumble, we fall, we fail
We'll beat on our drums, our day will come
Yes justice, yes peace will prevail
[Pre-Chorus]
Rise up!
Let our silence be heard
Rise up!
Go on and flip'm the bird (Hey!)
[Chorus]
We fight for what's right and we sing from our hearts
Together we all stand strong
We'll scream every verse, for better or worse
This is our protest song
Yes, this is our protest song (Hey!)
[Bridge]
[Pre-Chorus]
Rise up!
Let our silence be heard
Rise up!
Go on and flip'm the bird (Hey!)
[Chorus]
We fight for what's right and we sing from our hearts
Together we all stand strong
We'll scream every verse for better or worse
This is our protest song
This is our protest song
